The Shop Dock Story
I love to build things and I always have a project or two in the works. A while back I built a small work bench to house my table and miter saws. Size was a big factor as the only place to locate the bench was in my very small two car garage (which typically has two cars in it). The work bench is great but it has very little space for any bench top tools other than the two saws. To solve this issue I added a folding utility shelf where I could place any other tools that were needed for my various projects. As many before me, I soon ran into the problem of how to fasten the tools to the shelf so that I could use them. Clamps and other make-shift approaches worked to a degree but they were clumsy and took time to set up and take down. I tried the common approach where you attach each tool to a plywood plate with 45 degree bevels on each side and slide it between two matching 45 degree wood strips that are fastened to either side of the shelf. It kinda worked bu still clumsy and a little awkward to insert and remove. I wanted something fast, easy and secure and it occurred to me that if I just beveled one side of the tool plate and inserted that side into a receptacle mounted on the shelf then all I needed to hold it in place was some kind of locking mechanism on the opposite side of the shelf. I put together a quick prototype and to my amazement it worked. In fact I was really surprised at how well it worked and how easy it was to use. After using it in my shop for some time I decided to patent it (pending) and try and see if there was a market for such a thing.
And SHOP DOCK was created.
I still use my SHOP DOCK all of the time and love it. I think you will as well.
Keep building my friends!
